Midnight Plantarium is a spectacularly innovative watch design that allows you to wear a little piece of the Solar System on your wrist. Developed by Van Cleef & Arpels in partnership with Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw, the intricate concept replaces hands of a watch with six tiny planets orbiting around a central rose gold Sun.

This stunningly rare device has a price tag of $245,000 with semiprecious stones representing Mercury (serpentine), Venus (chloromelanite), Earth (turquoise), Mars (red jasper), Jupiter (blue agate), and Saturn (sugilite). All of the stones rotate separately and at the same pace as the actual planets. In 88 days, Mercury will make a full lap around the ce of the watch, while Venus requires 224 days and Earth takes a full year.

A shooting star indicates the hours and minutes and a lucky day feature allows owners to select a specific day of the year when the Earth will ll underneath the paint star on the ce of the watch. One of our vorites from this category from 2014s SIHH is the 44mm Midnight Plantarium from Van Cleef & Arpels Poetic Astronomy series. In addition to telling time by way of a shooting star that rotates along the outmost area of the ce, the watch more prominently features an accurate rotation and representation of the Earth and the five other planets visible from here around the sunMercury in 88 days, Venus in 224, Earth in a year, Mars in 687 days, Jupiter in 12 years and Saturn in 29. Its a very complex watch and a true display of supreme watch. But as complicated as the piece iswith 396 parts to the movementits also beautiful.

Astronomical representations were popular in the 18th century, the root of this timepieces inspiration. Manually driven ancestors of the modern planetarium were created across multiple shapes, sizes and stylesfrom watches to mobiles. For even longer, people have been captivated by the heavens, and because of this Van Cleef & Arpels captures its magnificence and awe it inspires.

On top of the already extravagant design, one of the more standout features is the ability to set any of the 365 days in the year as a lucky star, an additional element in this magical cosmos. When your day arrives the lucky star is located just above the Earth on the dial.

The complication is not only to make orbits for the planets, the biggest or the most complicated is to make it with this type of caseits very thin, their master watchmaker, Denis Giguet, explains to CH. Its ntastical and beautiful, as well. Seriously, the juice is too sweet and too expensive, so too bad.

However the CdG+Stephen Jones fragrance sounds very, very interesting. The bottle and packaging is understated and inventive, too.

You are not kidding, R. The pickins have not been the best, but I am still holding out for Dans Tes Bras, Sublime Balkiss, Prelude to Love and a couple others.

Speaking of violets- Im wearing Keiko Mecheri Genie Des Bois today. It starts of bracing and spicy and green on me. The heart is sweeter and vaguely floral/fruity, and the drydown smells like cloves and cinder. I love it and its perfect for cool, rainy weather. Sadly, Ive almost exhausted my sample and need to decide whether or not to buy it. (Im leaning towards buying it.)

I have not tried that in years, I should give it another go. Ive really never found a perfect violet.

The best bottle (IMO) is Truely. I think I will end up purchasing it. Isnt it $250? I really like the juice so it wouldnt be a wastebut who buys it? I keep thinking I will run into it at a discount.

Ive been lemming this one for the longest, if only just for the bottle.however, for $150 I want more than a red lollipop opening although, the mid to base notes definitely sound worth a sniff. I came to decide that since I have a small child in the house who might see this on the dresser and deem it play worthy because of the little iry, it would be too dangerous. And, its way too costly to have to store in an unseen, out-of-reach location. Thanks for the review!

Actually Im a loser and I do like to bottle! I think it looks gorgeous but not very convenient to carry in my purse anyways. Plus the price gimme some LArtisan Tea for Two or Serge Lutens for that price but Im sorry not Van Cleef and Arpels.

When I was young I would have thought it VERY play-worthy yes, youd have to keep it hidden!

Ack! Someones mentioned the Guerlain I word! I still cant get rid of that connection to the scent of bottled haircolor. OMG, EdP? Im all for it if they kill the candied raspberries and up the ante on the Guerlinade. Interestingly, I actually do like the smell of My Insolence better.

As for Feerie, the price is definitely feersome! I actually like the bottle. Its nice knowing that the look of luxe is back in focus. As for the juice, I think the violet is done much much better than Guerlains offering. Worth a purchase if you can grab a bargain when it finally appears at an online perfume discounter.

IMO, I think the smell of violet is better when they tone down the sweetness and amplify its drier, greener aspects. Feerie is warm, but luckily it doesnt remain sugary sweet as it develops.

Very similar, but not as well constructed as Amethyste by Lalique, coincendently created by the same company that makes Feerie.

I like Feerie, I Idont wear it much, but the bottle is eye candy. actually the fragrance is like a jolly rancher. Yummy until its gone.

The top notes reminded me of hair spray, but I still liked it better than My Insolence well see what theyve done with the EdP. I havent seen it anywhere yet.

But in Thailand this ones price is crazily high

So I tried to find it on E-BAY and I found one !

My store sells it at 6400 Bath ($190+)

But I found it at $105 ! (3350 Bath) !!

And bought it almost half price of my store !

I got this yesterday and all i can say is ill never buy something without smelling it first! Im totally disapointed, its so light i cant smell it and it doesnt stay on me at all.

I thought it was me but others cant smell it either. The only good thing is the bottle and its not worth the price only for the bottle.

and I love the bottle design, I would buy just for the bottle.

and Ive only ever smelled this by taking the top off and putting my nose to sprayer. so I dont porperly know what this smells like. Ill try it properly next time Im in Harvey Nichols.

its too bad they dont do a 30ml edp.

they do an eau de toilette range and the tops look a lot safer, its just a iry on the lid, no twigs lol. and 30ml edt has no iry on, so your totally safe there aha

I smelled this in Debenhams today.

it is nice, I see it as a fresh scent that has a bit of fruit and florals in it.

its not strong but its long lasting.

I took a whack at Feerie again today in Debenhams. and at first sniff I really liked it, I forgot I put it on and it kept reminding me it was there but I just couldnt think what it was until I smelled my arm and remembered, its strength surprised me. its a lot stronger than I first thought.

I can also smell more of it this time around, its incredibly pleasant, also smells to me of berries.

but its still too expesive to buy a bottle, its 92 for 100ml in Harvey Nichols and thats the only place I can find it. apart from the Debenhams store in White Rose shopping centre no other Debenhams has it!! not even online. I think the 50ml is 62 and there is no 30ml to my knowledge. its so darn expensive.

What is the significance of a jewelry brand as storied as Van Cleef & Arpels opening a boutique in Las Vegas, a town with plenty of stories of its own?

Van Cleef & Arpels is a 103-year-old French jeweler, born on the med Place Vendôme in Paris, says Rick Moore, director of the Van Cleef & Arpels Boutique in the Venetian/Palazzo. Visitors to the boutique are invited to sit on sos or in private VIP areas and enjoy a cool Perrier or a glass of chilled champagne. Moore comments, We welcome you as if you are entering someones home. Our goal is an artistic, creative experience, unlike any in Las Vegas.

Opened less than two years ago, the boutique has become a gathering place for appreciators and aficionados of Van Cleef & Arpels. Many of our customers know the jewelry as well as I do, says Moore, who adds, and they appreciate the way our boutique helps focus them on building their collections and adding special pieces during a respite from their everyday life.

They also value that the boutique allows its shoppers unprecedented access. In keeping with the spirit of Las Vegas, says Moore, our particular boutique is open until 11 p.m. This allows clients to enjoy Van Cleef & Arpels at the pace of the vibrant city, which can be both spontaneous and luxuriously leisurely.

Business is brisk at the boutique, which Moore attributes partly to remarkable Van Cleef & Arpels brand recognition and also to current trends in jewelry purchases. That is, buyers looking for artistic and classic styles that are not about trends but longevity and timelessness.

I like a few of their Collection Extraordinaire. I never tried Cologne Noire which seems to be a vourite with a few bloggers, but I like their Bois dIris, Gardnia Ptale, Orchide Vanille and rather like Lys Carmin.

Out of their mainstream collection the only one Im miliar with is First, which I think is brilliant.

I would say the same, Ive liked a few. I dont think of the line as being must try though.

Tried it today, after leaving flowers outside the French embassy (address: Pariser Platz, beside the Brandenburg Gate). Was looking for sth beautiful to distract from the horror of tonight.

Its very sweet. Burnt sugar with vanilla and ocean spray. Sweet-salty opening, smells very miliar but cant remember what it reminds me of. Eau de Merveilles? Cacharels Lou Lou! Yes. Caramellised almonds on a Christmas market with the int whiff of spiced whine punch? It smells expensive, powdery and somewhat French (whatever that may be), but its as gourmand as Bois dIris. As the burnt sugar slowly des (it doesnt disappear for long), it turns even more woody-powdery. Imagine an exclusive, vanillic, sugar-coated French pastry, slightly burnt and sprinkled with sea salt crystals and loads of Tonka bean.
